Thanks to your support, last year a major attempt to introduce assisted suicide failed and we have been able to continue to put up a strong opposition to attempts by the abortion lobby to introduce an extreme abortion law.
Unfortunately, this is not the end for our opposition.
OUR OPPOSITION’S NEXT MOVE
We are currently facing a serious assault on three critical fronts. Our opponents are attempting to make widespread changes to legislation on abortion and testing on embryos, as well as trying to introduce assisted suicide.
If these changes are successful, many more vulnerable lives will be ended.
We want to make sure you know the full story so you can see what we are up against and just how many vulnerable lives are at risk.
The first threat is from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) and their allies in biotech firms that undertake embryo experimentation.
These groups are currently lobbying the Government to make the greatest changes to the law concerning the use of embryos since the 2008 Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act, which allowed the creation of human-animal hybrid embryos and ‘saviour siblings’.
One of their goals is removing the 14-day limit from current legislation, so that scientists will be able to experiment on human embryos / unborn babies up to when they are 28 days or four weeks gestation.
At around 22 days, the central nervous system begins to form and by 28 days, the heart has begun to beat, the brain has begun to develop and a baby’s eyes, ears and nose have started to emerge.
Our current legislation already allows inhumane experimentation on unborn babies up to 14 days post conception. This proposed change would make the situation even worse.
The second threat is from the assisted suicide lobby.
After the defeat of their attempt to introduce assisted suicide last year, the assisted suicide lobby, led by the multi-million-pound outfit, Dignity in Dying, are continuing to run a large campaign in Parliament, through the media and online to put pressure on the Government to reconsider the legalisation of assisted suicide.
This campaign has focused on attempting to get the Health and Social Care Committee to lead an inquiry into reviewing our law on assisted suicide. The Committee has given in to this pressure from Dignity in Dying and the inquiry is now underway. This assisted suicide pressure group is spending a significant amount of money trying to sway the Committee to make a recommendation that there be a change in the law to legalise assisted suicide.
From there, the Government and Parliament will come under a sustained campaign of pressure to introduce assisted suicide to the UK – either through a government bill or the usual track of the assisted suicide lobby attempting to hijack another bill.
The third threat is from the abortion lobby.
The abortion lobby have persuaded Scotland’s new First Minister, Humza Yousaf, to commit to removing abortion from the criminal law, which would introduce abortion on demand, for any reason, up to birth in Scotland – along with legalising sex-selective abortion.
We know that the abortion provider, BPAS, is pouring large amounts of money into their lobbying and campaigning to secure this change in England and Wales too.
This campaign has been very clear about what they want – abortion on demand, for any reason, up to birth.
The stakes could not be higher.
We know that BPAS wants to see a law change that is modelled on the legislation that has been introduced in the state of Victoria in Australia.
There was a reported 600% increase in late-term abortions at one major hospital in Victoria following the introduction of the same extreme legislation there and a doctor was hauled in front of the local medical tribunal for refusing to refer a patient for a sex-selective abortion.
If these major threats from our opposition are successful, it would be a catastrophe. Doing nothing is not an option while thousands of vulnerable lives are at stake.

As you can see, we are currently facing significant challenges on life issues in the UK from all angles.
Fighting the abortion, assisted suicide and embryo experimentation lobbies over this period has already used a considerable amount of Right To Life UK’s limited resources.
To cover this gap and ensure we effectively defeat these proposals during the coming months, we are aiming to raise at least £100,000 by midnight on Sunday 21 May 2023.
